Support for people thinking of taking an HIV test

If you are considering having an HIV test you may wish to discuss this confidentially. We can offer one-to-one support to help you make a decision and can support you through the process.

Support for people who are newly diagnosed

We offer support and advice if you have just been diagnosed as HIV positive. The staff at the Centre can help you identify what support you may need, tell you about the services available and put you in touch with other services that might help.

Support regarding treatment options

Robert Fieldhouse discussing new medications

Many people are understandably concerned about the treatment and medication which so often form such a key role in the lives of individuals with HIV. Our role is to offer information and support, both to the receiver of the treatment and to his or her carers. If you need one to one support to discuss your particular concerns, or if you are thinking of starting treatment, we can provide a one-to-one support session with the HIV Clinical Nurse Specialist.

Support from peers

If you wish you can meet other people living with HIV by coming along to our drop-in sessions, group sessions or social activities. You may get a great deal of benefit from talking to others about how they are coping with the virus, medications, and problems encountered because of their status. Anything discussed in the Centre is subject to our confidentiality policy.

Support for carers, partners and family

The Centre supports people directly affected by HIV such as carers, partners, families and dependent children. We can provide someone to talk things through with in person and over the phone and give you the chance to meet and chat to other carers. We run a support group for the carers, parents, partners and family of HIV positive people. Please contact us to see when the group next meets.
